All Things In Good Time

Dear All

The phrase 'all things in good time' is rather at odds with this city and yet at the same time completely correct - rather like 'inshallah' in some ways; an acceptance that something is coming but not quite yet.  Kind of.  Not exactly ;)  In fact the two phrases have vast differences!  The first is not dependent on any belief, the second is if God wills it - although after living here for some time as I have one says the phrase even as an athiest  Anyway without getting tied up in sayings.. please go to my Writers' Centre blog update to catch up on the latest news which pertains to ARC also - as it's all me ;)

Dreams & Writing Course in Bahareya - it was AMAZING!!!

I am just back from the fabulous residential writing course I just ran in Bahareya, Egypt. 

 It was an amazing experience for us all; such sheer beauty and tranquility in the deserts and oases; so many riches available for one's writing.

I can't wait to do the next one and will start planning soon!

Well, there are SO many things happening it is as ever hard to find the time to update the blogs properly; and yes blogs as in plural as there is a lot going on now with the Writers' Centre as you can read on the posts below and please do go check out that blog www.writerscentre.blogspot.com  :))


I am still looking for a writers' residency for myself for summer; for either June/July or July/August.  So far I have looked at several places in Berlin and how I wish there was somewhere in Paris!!!!  So, if any of you lovely people know of a residency that you think would accept for me to stay in return for me running some courses or helping in some way then please do let me know!!! Or if you know of a residency that is affordable let me know too, as leaving Cairo and living outside of Egypt for a while is a bit of a shock monetarily!  ;))

Spring always feels such a hopeful time and I am looking forward to all the flowers of creativity that are opening their colours :))

This course is for those people who have completed the first course(s) with me

and for new students with demonstrated abilities.

It is an intense 4 session course with further creative writing writing exercises and discussion

to strengthen description, atmosphere and imagery;

we also work on several key topics each week such as contemporizing myth in writing, symbolism and surrealism,

writing creative non fiction and strengthening editing skills

by working on review and critique as well as discussion and individual work.

A New Home for the Writers' Centre!!!

I am very pleased to announce that after a long and winding road the Writers' Centre has found a new home at El Mesa7a Arts & Culture Center, Dokki.

All writers and interested people will be able to drop in and use the space to write, share, network, have a coffee - each and every Tuesday starting February 19th from 1pm to 9pm.

There will be a 10 LE minimum donation request for each 'drop in visit' to help with expenses, but you can stay for as long as the space is open.

There will also be a Tuesday 'event programme' which will be a mix of free and paid events – details will be given as the schedule is put together and will consist of : writing surgeries, workshops, day trips, readings, performances, film scereenings and open mic.

The Writers' Centre will also start a small library, which I hope will grow over time with donations of books.

Sundays at El Mesa7a hosts a programme of Creative Writing courses – see the blog for all details.

Hail! Hail! The open mic is back and this time at the fabulous, cool, wonderfulness of the Writers' Centre's new home at El Mesaha Arts & Culture Center!!! And we are lovin' it!!

So, it's gonna be the first Tuesday of every month and can't wait to see you! 7pm till 9pm.

We want YOU for spoken word, readings, performance and acoustic music. The emphasis is Word and Artistry.

Short Story Course
with Linda Cleary

for those who completed the 4 week Creative Writing course or who have proven writing skills. This course focuses on work on character, voice, atmosphere and plot and we continue with further creative writing expansion techniques.
We also read published short stories for discussion and understanding format, focusing on the necessary elements for each student to produce a final draft of a 1000 word narrative.

4 weeks (8 hour course)
One session per week (2 hour session) on Mondays
Starting Monday 21st January
